Tasks

  • You develop a simulation methodology to predict arcing in battery packs during thermal runaway and thus contribute to the safety of battery systems
  • You will arry out literature research on simulation approaches for electric arcs
  • You evaluate test data from clearance and creepage tests and derive correlations for your model
  • You replicate the test setups in Star-CCM+ and implement your identified correlations
  • You compare your simulation results with the measurement results and evaluate the modeling quality based on previously defined criteria
  • You document your progress and present it regularly in order to successively optimize your models

Qualification

  • You are studying mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, computational engineering science, energy technology, physics or similar
  • You are interested in developing numerical simulation methods
  • You have basic knowledge in experimental data evaluation with MATLAB
  • You have simulation experience in Star-CCM+
  • You are motivated to familiarize yourself with a complex topic and work independently, conscientiously and in a structured manner
